watchOS 9 launch date and compatibility
There’s no information but on when watchOS 9 will launch, however we can take an excellent guess. watchOS 8 was introduced in June of 2021 at Apple's WWDC developer convention, then lastly hit wrists in September, and Apple tends to observe an everyday sample. So we’d anticipate to get our first official have a look at watchOS 9 throughout WWDC 2023, which is able to in all probability happen in June. Then the completed model will seemingly launch in or round September, alongside the Apple Watch 8 and the iPhone 14.There’s no phrase on which wearables can be up to date to watchOS 9 both, however all the pieces from the Apple Watch 3 onwards can get watchOS 8, so we’d assume it'll both be the identical once more, or – maybe more seemingly – Apple will drop assist for the Apple Watch 3, with solely the Apple Watch 4 onwards getting watchOS 9.
What we want to see
There are some things we actually want to see from watchOS 9. They are as follows.
1. Better sleep monitoring
Sleep monitoring is a reasonably current addition to watchOS, and to date, Apple hasn’t accomplished a lot with it. The function offers you little or no when it comes to perception or particulars, or recommendations on how to enhance your sleep. It additionally doesn’t make good use of the Sp02 sensor (on fashions which have this). We famous in our Apple Watch 7 overview that you simply received’t, for instance, get an alert in case your blood oxygen drops an excessive amount of in a single day – one thing which might be extraordinarily helpful to know from a well being perspective. So we want Apple to make large advances to all its sleep instruments with watchOS 9.

2. Improved exercises
Apple does a lot better with exercises than sleep monitoring, however the performance nonetheless feels a bit fundamental on the software program aspect.Take your Apple Watch out operating for instance and also you received’t get issues like coronary heart charge alerts or interval classes.Without these fundamental options, the Apple Watch can usually really feel like a more informal health companion than one thing suited to more critical athletes, and that’s a disgrace, so we want exercises to be improved with watchOS 9 as properly.
3. More responsive Siri
One subject our reviewer discovered when utilizing the Apple Watch 7 was that Siri would solely reply round 80% of the time when elevating their wrist and talking to it, and that’s simply not fairly ok to make it a dependable method of interacting with the wearable. It’s not completely clear whether or not it is a {hardware} or software program subject, however we’d assume Apple might make it more responsive with modifications to the software program, and we hope this occurs.

4. Third-party faces
While there are devoted apps equivalent to Facer that permit you to stick third-party faces in your Apple Watch, it’s not one thing the corporate makes simple. With watchOS 9 we’d like to see full assist added for third-party faces, in order that a lot of creators soar on board, and discovering and accessing these faces is as simple as for Apple’s personal ones.
5. Support for the Apple Watch 3
It’s seemingly that Apple will reduce off assist to the Apple Watch 3 with this new software program replace, however we hope that it doesn’t. The longer units get updates for, the longer they really feel contemporary and viable to use, so we like to see long-lasting assist.
Apple is definitely fairly good on this entrance, however it will probably all the time do higher, and with Samsung now promising 4 years of updates for its wearables, we want to see Apple supply a minimum of 5.
