After a lot hypothesis and rumors, Nintendo introduced that N64 games are coming to the Switch Online service as an Expansion Pack from October.
Since the Nintendo Switch Online service was launched in 2018 with NES games, adopted by SNES games in 2019, it was hoped that both Game Boy or N64 games would arrive in 2020, but nothing got here of it.
Some put it right down to the energy of the Switch itself, that it will wrestle to run sure games comparable to Zelda: Majoras Mask and Star Wars: Rogue Squadron.
But these fears have been rapidly dismissed with affirmation that 9 games have been coming in October, with extra coming. However, with SEGA Genesis games additionally coming to the service, it might imply that different methods might be arriving quickly.

The Kazooie in the room
Nintendo confirmed that N64 and SEGA Genesis games would be coming at the next tier of the Switch Online membership, of which might be detailed and priced at a later date.
Having needed to play Zelda: Majoras Mask on my Switch for years, to see it on its approach was the spotlight of the Nintendo Direct for me. It's the 3D Zelda sport that I discover the finest, second solely to Breath of the Wild. There was additionally point out of F-Zero X arriving to the service, and whereas that is additionally a sport I hoped to see seem, having its growth pack for the 64DD, an add-on that was rapidly discontinued for the N64, would be a welcome addition.
However, seeing Banjo Kazooie as one other sport showing at a later date was a shock. Reading between the strains, it seems to be one other settlement between Nintendo and Microsoft, who personal Rare, the maker of Banjo Kazooie.

This now implies that different games from Rare's library could seem, from Banjo-Tooie, to Blast Corps. But should you assume there's a greater probability for GoldenEye to seem, I'd cease.
However, this wasn't the solely addition, with SEGA Genesis / Mega Drive games additionally showing on the service quickly. While you should buy a group of those, the emulation wasn't nice, with odd sounds when accumulating rings in Sonic 2 as an illustration.
But with this now coming to the service, it opens up potential for different consoles to reach sometime.

The Nintendo Dreamcast
I'm an enormous lover of the SEGA Dreamcast, launched again in 1999 the place it launched Sonic Adventure, Shenmue and Jet Set Radio to an viewers that also fondly remembers the period.
Shenmue is a series that also holds a flame to many, with the first two games redefining how an RPG could work in a 3D atmosphere. But with no point out of games from this period showing on the Switch, seeing it on the Online service could be the subsequent neatest thing.
While the house of 1 Dreamcast sport is sort of ten occasions the house of 1 Nintendo 64 sport, which often is round 30MB, having a library of those games could make the Online service much more alluring. The following could simply be the begin:
- Sonic Adventure
- Shenmue
- Powerstone
- Jet Grind Radio
- Dynamite Cop
- Phantasy Star Online
- Chu Chu Rocket
- Virtua Fighter 3
- Dead or Alive 2
What could Nintendo launch subsequent?
The subsequent avenue for the service could be the Game Boy. There's an enormous library to choose from right here, starting from the unique handheld to the Game Boy Advance. It could fall into the larger tier the place the N64 and SEGA Genesis will be, and could carry some forgotten classics to the Switch:
- Golden Sun
- Wario Land 1-4
- Super Mario Land
- Pokémon
- Tetris
- Popeye 2
However, we're solely in the early levels of seeing new methods arrive for the Switch Online service. But with the Nintendo Switch OLED arriving quickly, having the ability to play Zelda: Ocarina of Time on the OLED show could be a temptation that few could resist as soon as that and the remainder of the library are accessible.
