PAN card or Permanent Account Number is a unique ten-digit alphanumeric number and is issued in a form of a laminated card, under the Indian Tax Department. It is one of the most important documents for the citizen of India. It is not only used for tax purposes but also as an identity proof.

However, if your PAN card contains mismatch in name, date of birth or other personal details then it can lead to problems in future. So it is advised to get the mistakes and inaccuracies in your PAN corrected as soon as possible.

An individual can use both online and offline methods for the PAN Card correction. Here is a step by step guide you can follow to update or correct your details in a PAN card.

Steps you can follow to apply for PAN Card correction online

Step 1: First, open any browser and visit Tin-NSDL official website, tin-nsdl.com

Step 2: On the homepage, under the Services Section, click on PAN.

Step 3: On the new page, under Change/Correction in PAN Data, click Apply.

Step 4: From the Application Type dropdown menu, select Changes or Correction in existing PAN data/Reprint of PAN Card (No changes in existing PAN Data).

Step 5: Next, from the Category dropdown menu, select the correct category.

For example, if the PAN is registered in your name, select Individual from the list.

Step 6: Now, enter your name, date of birth, email address and mobile number.

Step 7: Fill the Captcha and click on Submit.

Step 8: Your request will be registered and a Token Number will be sent to the email ID for reference number.

Step 9: To continue the process, click Continue with PAN Application Form.

Step 10: After you proceed, you will be redirected to the form – there are three options to submit your documents.

  • Submit digitally through e-KYC & e-Sign (Paperless)
  • Submit scanned images through e-Sign (NSDL e-gov)
  • Forward application documents physically

Step 11: Click on Submit scanned images through e-Sign on NSDL e-gov.

Step 12: Now, fill in all the necessary details such as your father’s name, mother’s name (optional), your Aadhaar number and click on Next.

Step 13: You will now be redirected to a new page where you need to select and upload all the necessary documents such as proof of address, proof of age, proof of identity and PAN.

Step 14: After submitting, verify your details and make necessary changes if required.

Step 15: Next, you will be redirected to the payment page. You can make payment through demand draft, net banking, and Credit card/Debit card.

Step 16: On successful payment, an acknowledgement slip will be generated.

Now, the applicant should take a print of it and send it to the NSDL e-gov office along with the physical proof of documents. Individual applicants are required to affix a photographs in the space provided in the acknowledgement and sign it in a such manner that a portion of the signature is on the photo as well as on acknowledgement receipt.

Write ‘Application for PAN Change’ on top of the envelope along with the acknowledgement number. And sent to NSDL e-Gov at ‘Income Tax PAN Services Unit, NSDL e-Governance Infrastructure Limited, 5th Floor, Mantri Sterling, Plot No. 341, Survey No. 997/8, Model Colony, Near Deep Bungalow Chowk, Pune – 411 016’.
