Amsterdam’s iconic Tuschinski Theatre has been named the most beautiful cinema in the world by Time Out magazine.

Time Out’s most beautiful cinemas

In their list of the 50 most beautiful cinemas in the world, Time Out magazine honours modern and historic cinemas around the globe at a time when many are longing to grab some popcorn and once again enjoy a movie on the big screen.

Featuring breathtaking and unique cinemas from Singapore, Cape Town, Mexico City and Paris, the list could serve as an ideal travel guide for any film buff. But aficionados in the Netherlands won’t have to travel too far to visit the most beautiful cinema in the world, as it is right here in Amsterdam!

Palatial Tuschinski named most beautiful cinema in the world

Opened in October 1921 and named after Abraham Icek Tuschinski, Pathé Tuschinski has a rich and fascinating history. The art deco building is easily the most famous cinema in the Netherlands.

Jury member Phil de Semlyen called the cinema palatial, saying its “elegant mash-up of art deco and art nouveau styles with sleek modernist touches brings [Tuschinski’s] dream to life daily for movie-mad Amsterdammers.” Time Out also highlighted the cinema’s latest addition, Bar Abraham, and its Pulp Fiction Milkshake, advising readers to “make a pilgrimage to this opulent, historic shrine to the movies.”

This honour is only the latest for Tuschinski – in 2020, it was named the most beautiful classical film theatre in Europe by the International Cinema Technology Association.
