Will there be two IPL per year now?

Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has reckoned that there will be two editions of the Indian Premier League per year in the coming years. Chopra was so sure of his statements as he added the idea is likely to initiate after a span of five years. He thinks if or not two IPLs in a year are required is not an area of concern but what matters is if it will happen or not, to which he assumed it will 100% take place.

According to him, the IPL will remain the same for the next five years but it will change later on seeing a big and a small IPL respectively in a year. He says there will be 94 games in the bigger edition whereas, the smaller one will be winded up within a month in which each team will play against each other only once.

“When you talk about this, then you feel if two IPLs are required. It does not matter whether it is required or not. Will it happen or won’t happen? That is the big question and I feel it will happen. It will 100% happen, there will be a big IPL, where there will be 94 matches, and one small IPL which will be over in one month, where all teams will play each other maybe once,”

Speaking on his YouTube channel, he said the IPL is massively growing every year. Notably, the IPL 2023 was a ten-team edition and saw 70 matches rivalled alongside the playoffs and a final. He believes the market forces will further extend the cash-rich league occupying most of the year’s window.

“Once you have sown the seeds, which was in your hands, and given them water for a few days, after that it takes its own course. Now it can become a huge banyan tree, all that can happen. Now it is the natural evolution of a tournament like the IPL,”

BCCI wants to stop t20I cricket for more franchise cricket (IPL)

On a different note, Ravi Shastri, the former coach of the Indian Cricket Team, talked that the T20I cricket should be stopped so the franchise cricket can get more exposure. However, Chopra contradicted the idea and said it must continue for fans and the broadcasters, instead ODI cricket should be eliminated.
