Anyone who’s been lucky sufficient to get their fingers on a PS5 will agree that, together with its tremendous-quick SSD, the DualSense controller is considered one of the console’s greatest options.
Despite the incontrovertible fact that Sony's PS5 DualSense has pushed the boundaries of contemporary gamepads to a entire new degree, it nonetheless has a few setbacks that would have been addressed with a more premium model.
While Sony nonetheless refuses to play ball, we’ve put collectively a number of causes as to why we predict that a PS5 pro controller would make sense. Maybe, simply perhaps, we will manifest one into existence ourselves.
The DualSense battery life might be improved
Since the PS5’s launch, the DualSense gamepad is taken into account to be considered one of the greatest controllers in gaming, even successful an online ballot as a part of the latest BAFTA Games awards.
And it’s straightforward to see why it’s so extremely regarded if you take a nearer look into the options that make up the generational leap between the DualSense and the PS4’s DualShock 4.

The BEST CONTROLLER EVER TOURNAMENT (our pleasant competitors!) has come to an finish, and you've got determined the final winner with the DualSense taking the crown ????????Reminder: you'll be able to watch the #BAFTAGames Awards on 7 April 2023 on all main social and online platforms???? pic.twitter.com/wGH5zKdosIMarch 27, 2023
We’ve stated it earlier than and we’ll say it once more till we're blue in the face: the inclusion of haptic suggestions and adaptive triggers in the DualSense controller has been considered one of the largest highlights in the newest technology of gaming consoles.
But the PS5 controller is not good by any means and does have its justifiable share of flaws. Currently, considered one of the largest points that PlayStation players are likely to encounter is having to cope with the DualSense’s mediocre battery life which varies wildly between six to 12 hours of playtime. Frustratingly, it additionally seems that the aforementioned adaptive triggers and haptic suggestions have the largest impression on the controller's battery life.
While you do have the alternative to show off adaptive triggers and haptic suggestions, or a minimum of cut back their depth, it’s a disgrace to should resort to depriving your self of considered one of the greatest elements of gaming on a PS5 simply to get a bit more juice when gaming.
The market needs a PS5 Pro controller
Since Sony nonetheless appears to be reluctant in creating a Pro model of its DualSense controller, third-social gathering producer Scuf has stepped in to avoid wasting the day. At the second, Scuf presents PlayStation players a alternative between three gamepads: the Scuf Reflex, Reflex Pro, and Reflex FPS – all decked out with barely various specs.

And regardless of their comparatively excessive value of $199.99 / $229.99 / $259.99, the Scuf PS5 pro controller proves that there’s excessive demand for a premium PS5 controller. So a lot so, that each one three variations of Scuf’s gamepads have bought out and nonetheless stay out of inventory nearly a month after their preliminary launch.
All three of Scuf’s PS5 pro controllers embrace remappable paddles and interchangeable thumbsticks. This offers players more flexibility by way of reassigning key actions to totally different button inputs to greatest match their playstyle.
Given the worth and attraction of the Scuf gamepads, it’s apparent that ought to it ever be launched, a PlayStation-model elite controller possible received’t be geared toward the common console gamer. Instead, it will cater to a smaller, more devoted portion of PS5 homeowners that play online first-particular person shooter video games corresponding to Call of Duty: Warzone or Destiny 2, the place improved {hardware} may give gamers a aggressive edge.
If you’re something like me, although, and spend the majority of the time enjoying story-pushed video games like Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga or Resident Evil: Village, likelihood is you received’t actually need a PS5 pro controller. Still, I would not say no to a controller that has a longer battery life than the unique DualSense and presents more flexibility.
Xbox has had pro pads for years
Parents and faculty academics spend a vital chunk of our childhood telling us that simply because another person does one thing, that does not imply it is best to do it your self. While that’s typically good recommendation on the subject of leaping off cliffs, on this state of affairs I couldn’t disagree more.

Microsoft’s unique Xbox Elite Wireless Controller and its successor have been obtainable for years and are proof that console players need an improve on the unique gamepad – even when it prices a premium.
In our Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 evaluate, we talked about the way it offers customers with a heftier design that’s centered round customization all the manner all the way down to the system degree. This signifies that Xbox homeowners can freely alter every little thing from stick sensitivity to vibration and brightness, along with having 4 additional again buttons to reassign numerous actions to.
While it might probably appear to be a problem to construct any additional on the already nice DualSense controller, I don’t suppose it’s too outlandish to ask for an official pro-level PS5 gamepad from Sony that gives the identical degree of customizations as the Xbox Elite controller.
It’s unclear why Sony doesn’t wish to comply with swimsuit, truthfully, as a lot of the largest video games on PlayStation are aggressive online video games. Although the launch of the admittedly clunky DualShock 4 again button attachment for the PS4 was higher late than by no means, it’s not at present appropriate with the PS5. A PS5 model of this peripheral would a minimum of be a step in the proper path, then, a minimum of till Sony hopefully decides to make a pro pad of its personal.
