Want an excuse to redecorate your bedroom? Here's some motivation. A recent British survey suggests that painting your bedroom walls one particular color could help boost your sex life. The British survey, conducted by Travelodge, initially set out to investigate the impact of bedroom color on sleep patterns, but of course, they couldn't do that without asking questions about other bedroom activities that could disrupt a person's rest. Using data collected from 2,000 homes across the U.K., the researchers found that people who painted their room a caramel color were getting it on the most—an average of three times per week. Ironically, those who slept in red bedrooms—a color typically associated with love and lust—had sex just once per week on average.

Luckily for anyone who wants an active sex life and a stylish home, neutral and natural is all the rage in home decor right now. An indulgent caramel hue works beautifully with a range of styles, from mid century modern to rustic minimalism. Think buttery leather accents and sumptuous walls that look like they could be drizzled over a bakery confection.

The Travelodge survey also suggests that painting your room blue, gray, or silver could inspire a range of other bedroom habits. Most importantly, those who slept in a blue room reported getting a great night's sleep: nearly a full eight hours on average. Those who slept in gray bedrooms were more likely to spend time online shopping in bed. And those with silver bedroom walls were more likely to work out in their bedroom.

So, the next time you redecorate, you'll want to consider your bedroom priorities first.
