If you have been hoping to get your palms on one of the Nintendo Switch's new wi-fi 64 controllers this Christmas, it seems you would possibly be out of luck – the controller is at present out of inventory within the US, with the merchandise's itemizing noting that "more controllers will be available in 2023."The wi-fi N64 controller can be listed as out of inventory on Nintendo's UK and Australian shops, nonetheless, it is price noting that neither store provides an anticipated restock date, which means there is a very slim likelihood that more controllers might turn out to be obtainable to Brits and Aussies this yr.
While the wi-fi Nintendo 64 controller was bought solely to Nintendo Switch Online members at a restrict of 4 per buyer, that has not stopped resellers from itemizing the three-pronged gamepad on eBay at ridiculously marked up costs.
Our take: Nintendo ought to have ready for this
The lack of inventory is an actual disgrace for those that missed out on nabbing the N64 controller legitimately, because it's this author's opinion that the gamepad drastically improves the expertise of enjoying N64 video games on Switch. While avid gamers are technically capable of play N64 video games utilizing a Nintendo Switch Pro Controller (and even Joy-Cons for that matter), enjoying this manner typically results in frustration – this is because of an incapacity to remap buttons within the Nintendo 64 app, and the truth that there aren't sufficient face buttons on Switch controllers, which means some of the N64's directional C buttons are awkwardly mapped to the proper stick. The Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack has been criticized by many since its announcement because of its value and paltry providing of video games, and whereas the Nintendo Switch Online’s N64 emulator isn’t as dangerous because it appears, the wi-fi N64 controller is one of the principle issues that makes the expertise worthwhile. It's our opinion that Nintendo actually ought to have recognized this might occur, and maybe if it had restricted online purchases to 2 per buyer reasonably than 4, there would not be as many followers lacking out on enjoying N64 video games the way in which they have been meant to be performed this yr. We additionally imagine it is unacceptable for customers who've already coughed up the additional money for Nintendo's Switch Online Expansion Pack to be pressured to attend a minimum of a pair of months to play their N64 video games correctly. Hopefully, the controller will be back on sale subsequent yr with greater than sufficient inventory for everybody.
