Niharika Konidela is a very popular face on TV thanks to her talk show. Her film career is thus closely monitored.

Although her first film was bombed, she has successfully made people look forward to her second film, “Happy Wedding”. The film hit the screens today.

Let’s find out its pros and cons.

Story:

The Hyderabad girl Akshara (Niharika), who broke up with her boyfriend (Raja) and moved on in life, meets a man Anand (Sumanth Ashwin), who lives in Vijayawada. Soon their love turns into love and this eventually leads to engagement.

After the engagement, she feels that Anand is no longer as caring as when they were dating. So she buys some time to decide if he’s the man she really wants to be with forever.

Given the title of the film, anyone can expect what the ending could be, but this sums up the wafer-thin plot.

Performances by artists:

Sumanth Ashwin as the youngster from Vijayawada is neat, although there isn’t much to prove for him in terms of performance.

Niharika is on-screen but she still has a long way to go to get noticed for her acting skills. She needs to work on some of her emotions, other than relying solely on her looks.

The movie has a huge cast. Murali Sharma and Tulasi as Niharika’s parents, Naresh and Pavitra as Sumanth Ashwin’s parents add value to the proceedings.

Raja as Niharika’s ex-boyfriend is okay.

Technical excellence:

Shaktikanth’s music is downright ordinary. The film has a few songs, but they are not recorded at all. The cinematography of the film is pleasant. The production design is neat. The pace of the movie is damn slow.

Analysis:

Movies made about post-engagement blues are not entirely new to the Telugu audience. ‘Happy Wedding’ falls into the same formula. We’ve seen male protagonists doubting whether or not they chose the right person after getting engaged in some movies. In “Happy Wedding” the female protagonist has doubts.

The film begins with Sumanth Ashwin’s breaking news that the bride will not be coming to the wedding and reveals the flashback. The story is about how Niharika and Sumanth started their love story six months ago.

The story starts with Niharika drinking vodka and Sumanth taking Mirinda in a pub. She is modern, he is open-minded. She is a girl with confusions and insecurities, he is a cool guy and patient.

After these characterizations are established in some scenes, the film slows down and runs in a dull manner, although there are occasional jokes or two.

Movies like this run on expected lines, as the story revolves around the girl’s indecision, there’s no chance of a major twist.

When a story is on a straight line, the story should be compelling. However, the new director did not weave magical moments, nor did he bring interesting scenes.

A father-son with light moments, family with gala time, a friend of the heroine who talks in Telangana accent, some family songs and dance moments – the movie is full of these regular scenes and they test the patience after a point.

Also the reason why the girl doubts whether he is the right man for her, has no strong basis. Just because he didn’t pick her up when she came to meet him, she compares this moment and their “dating” time and starts to believe that men take women for granted once the girls say yes to them. Because she had similar experiences with her previous boyfriend. But this is told in a lethargic way.

It should have been told in a more convincing way to connect the public with the girl’s predicament.

Once the silly and simple conflict is established at the interval bang, the film slides down after the break. No novelty, no surprises, just routine scenes. The dialogues are also unnatural, although there are some good comic lines coming from Annapurnnamma.

Romantic movies would work if the music is sweet and catchy, but here songs are a huge drawback. The slow pace is another drawback.

All in all, “Happy Wedding” is a simple love story of a confused girl told with some bright imagery, some funny jokes, but turns out to be gloomy and nagging.

Bottom line: Not happy
