Discover The Pros and Cons of Owning a Dirt bike

Motorcycling has always been a popular pastime. Some people ride for fun, using touring bikes to cover vast distances and see the country. Others simply use them to commute more efficiently, and others love getting off-road with the latest and best Kawasaki dirt bikes in Sydney.

It doesn’t matter how you like to ride, the simple truth is that bike sales have increased dramatically in recent years.

If you’re considering investing in a dirt bike then you should be aware of the pros and cons before you do.

The Pros

These generally outweigh the cons.

  • It’s Fun

At first riding off-road on unstable terrain can be daunting. But, this does give you an adrenaline rush. Once you’ve got a little experience you’ll quickly find that dirt biking is addictive, because it is so much fun.

  • Improves Health

It takes physical strength to manoeuvre the dirt bike around and you’ll need to be mentally alert to ensure you are aware of what terrain is coming up and how to best navigate over it.

In short, you’ll need to be mentally and physically focused when you ride your dirt bike. Doing so will improve your physical and mental health further.

  • Safer Than You Think

When you dirt bike you need to put the right gear on. That means helmet, gloves, knee, elbow, shoulder, and even back protector. Add to this the slower speeds you generally ride at compared to the road and you’ll start to realize why serious accidents dirt biking are surprisingly rare.

  • Good Experience For The Road

If you want to get better at riding on the road then dirt biking is a great way to get started. You’ll understand how bikes react and improve your skills, making you much safer on the road.

The Cons

There are several things you should be aware of.

  • Costs

The cost of buying a good dirt bike doesn’t have to be ridiculous. It’s not this that makes dirt biking more expensive than riding on the road. However, there are significant upfront costs as you should buy all the gear to keep you safe.

Alongside this, the real cost is the ongoing maintenance. Dirt bikes have tough lives and need to be regularly cleaned and maintained. If you don’t, you’re likely to experience a chain or engine failure while riding.

  • Noise

Dirt bikes are noisy, there is no getting away from this. You will need to be prepared for the noise and either wear adequate noise protection or simply live with it.

  • Ease Of Theft

It’s important to note that dirt bikes are generally very light. That means they are easy to lift and put in a trailer or van. It’s much easier to steal a dirt bike than any other bike, especially as they often don’t have steering locks.

You need to be aware of this and make sure you have adequate security wherever you decide to keep them, especially when you’re not using them.
