Sheep replace cars as they cross Madrid en route to winter pastures


(CNN) — The streets of Madrid had been crammed with sheep and the clanking of bells on Sunday as shepherds guided their flocks via the guts of the Spanish capital, following historical seasonal herding routes.
Locals lined the route to welcome again the spectacle, which was canceled final yr due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The annual occasion, which began in 1994, permits shepherds to train their proper to use conventional routes to herd their livestock from northern Spain to more southerly pastures for winter grazing.

Children more used to seeing visitors jams on the town streets loved the chance to rise up shut to the animals.
