New Oculus Quest VR leaks ahead of this week’s Facebook Connect

We might have lastly seen what the brand new VR headset that can change the Oculus Quest 2 appears to be like like. Convincing-looking leaked tutorial movies are displaying off an all-new Oculus headset design for the Oculus Quest 2 Pro or Oculus Quest 3 we’ve been ready for - and it is perhaps at Facebook Connect in just some days.

A Twitter thread exhibits off a number of clips that declare to be educational movies discovered within the “Seacliff firmware” - with Seacliff being the codename of a supposed new Oculus VR headset.

In the movies, we see a brand new VR headset that appears to be wi-fi just like the Oculus Quest 2 however has a a lot much less cumbersome entrance visor, with the load as an alternative distributed throughout the entrance and with a pack on the again.

The largest change of all although appears to be like to be the design of the controllers. The new controllers (that are proven to be charged up by way of a dock alongside the brand new headset) additionally lack the Quest 2’s monitoring rings.

This seemingly signifies that the controllers are capable of handle their very own inside-out monitoring moderately than counting on the headset. However it’s not 100% clear from what’s proven if this is the case.

We have to recollect to take these movies with a pinch of salt although, as there’s no assure that these are professional. However if they're the true deal they counsel that the subsequent Oculus Quest headset might be practically accomplished and that makes it a shoe-in to look later this week at Facebook Connect.

Analysis: The Oculus Quest 2 Pro or Oculus Quest 3?

Back in April, it was prompt that we’d be getting the Oculus Quest 2 Pro earlier than the subsequent correct improve to the Oculus Quest line of headsets - the Oculus Quest 3 - however now we’re much less sure of that based mostly on what we’ve seen.

The system proven off within the educational movies appears to be like like more than simply an incremental improve. We can’t inform what the internals are from the video, but when Oculus goes to create a headset and controllers that look vastly completely different to what’s come earlier than it will be good to make this headset a more significant improve than simply an ‘Oculus Quest 2 Pro’.

Case in level, take a look at what Sony did with the PS4 Pro vs the PS5. The Pro appears to be like practically an identical to the PS4 - albeit turning the double-stacked console right into a triple stack to focus on the facility increase. Meanwhile, the PS5 appears to be like nothing like its predecessor telling gamers that this isn’t only a minor improve however a full-blown subsequent-gen machine.

Based on what we’ve seen the brand new Oculus Quest headset can be greater than succesful of supporting beefier parts to amp up its inside energy. With what appears to be like to be higher warmth and weight distribution it may very simply be outfitted with more highly effective processors, more RAM and shows with greater definition than what the Oculus Quest 2 at the moment makes use of.

Oculus will need to watch out with how a lot further juice it pumps in for now. The Oculus Quest 2 has bought so effectively as a result of it’s a really inexpensive entry into VR - this all-new headset may overlook that and blow previous many more informal customers’ budgets.

For now, we’ll have to attend for Facebook Connect on Thursday to know for certain what Facebook and Oculus have in retailer for us. Based on what we’ve seen although, the day can’t come quickly sufficient.
