Mirabai Chanu, Indian Weightlifter, Qualifies for Tokyo Olympics 2021

New Delhi, June 12: India's Mirabai Chanu, the 2017 world champion in weightlifting, has certified for the Tokyo Olympic Games in ladies's 49 kg class, the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) introduced on Friday.

The 26-year-old from Manipur has certified on the idea of her world rating factors. The Indian lifter is ranked second within the ladies's 49kg class with 4133,6172 factors in her kitty. China's Hou Zhihui is top-ranked in 49kg with 4926,4422 factors.

As per guidelines of the IWF, high eight lifters in every of the 14 weight classes, together with seven within the ladies's group, are eligible to compete in Tokyo Olympic Games. Indonesia's Aisah Windy Cantika is ranked fifth and Vietnam's Vuong Thi Huyen is seventh. Two European and two Pan American lifters fill the opposite 4 slots.

In males's 67 kg class, India's teenage weightlifter Jeremy Lalrinnunga is ranked twelfth and didn't get continental berth for the Tokyo Olympics because it was allotted to Korean weightlifter Han Myeong-mok.

Top eight world-ranked athletes get computerized berths for Olympics. The IWF had set a May 31 deadline to realize world rating factors.
