Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga features Mark Hamill’s most hated meme

The Skywalker Saga has now launched and introduced developer Traveller’s Tales model of reverent comedy with it. Like the minifigure mash-ups earlier than it, the sport references all of the traditional scenes from George Lucas’s mega sci-fi franchise, in addition to a good few jokes which have sprung up round it.

Among these gags is one notably notable second that’s turn into one thing of a traditional meme amongst Star Wars followers. During an early scene within the Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, Obi-Wan offers a younger Lego Luke his father’s previous lightsaber. He takes the weapon in hand, research it some time, earlier than cheerily pointing it immediately at his face, as if he needs to unintentionally ignite the face-melting blade immediately by means of his eyeball.

Luke's deathly naivety has turn into a joke in Star Wars circles. But as The Hollywood Reporter (opens in new tab) factors out, it’s doubly humorous as a result of Luke Skywalker actor Mark Hamill has beforehand singled out the meme to say simply how a lot he dislikes it.

“This makes me cringe every time I see it,” he mentioned on Twitter concerning the meme final 12 months.

“I don't remember doing this in the movie. I think it's just an on-set production still, otherwise Obi-Wan wouldn't look so remarkably unconcerned.”

This makes me cringe each time I see it. ????????I do not keep in mind doing this within the film. I feel it is simply an on-set manufacturing nonetheless, in any other case Obi-Wan would not look so remarkably unconcerned. ???? https://t.co/WXH4Ng0OzXMarch 8, 2021

That’s not a half dangerous motive for disliking it. Watch the unique scene (opens in new tab) and also you’ll see Luke doesn’t, in truth, angle the lightsaber at his face. Instead, he nearly instantly ignites it and begins swishing it round. Not precisely a smart factor to do with what he’s simply been instructed is “an elegant weapon”, but it surely’s higher than slicing his face off.

Mark Hamill could be a tad irritated if he have been to ever play Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, however we reckon the inclusion of the errant joke is within the spirit of the broader Star Wars mythos. Plus, it makes much more sense than the indestructible Lego youngsters that gamers are utilizing to cheese the sport.
