Konami has revealed that eFootball’s first piece of premium content material will value $39.99 / £32.99, which is near the worth of a full recreation.
The “eFootball 2023 Premium Play Pack” consists of six ‘Chance Deals’, 2800 eFootball Coins, and an extra two Chance Deals as a bonus for pre-ordering the free-to-play recreation upfront. If your eyes are rolling into the again of your head on the sight of yet one more in-recreation foreign money, and the phrase “chance” being utilized in one thing you’re truly paying for, know that at the least you’re not alone.
What makes eFootball’s microtransaction pack all of the extra irksome, although, is the very fact you gained’t be capable to use the contents till two months after the sport launches on September 30, 2021. Instead, you’ll have to attend till an replace “scheduled for mid-November of 2021” earlier than you possibly can splash eFootball’s monopoly-model cash.
But what are Chance Deals, precisely? Well, they allow you to signal one of 16 “top-tier Ambassador and partner club players”, which truthfully means nothing to me. An outline on the eFootball web site, which has since been eliminated (thanks, VGC), mentioned that when every Chance Deal is used, you’ll get a special participant from the checklist of 16 and keep away from any duplicates.

It means, then, that some customers might spend $80 to buy each prime-tier Ambassador and companion membership participant in the event that they actually need to. And sadly, numerous gamers most likely will, which is why I’ve all the time been turned off by the likes of FIFA 22’s Ultimate Team that sees gamers spend actual-world money to construct a squad of fancy footballers.
eFootball’s tackle Ultimate Team is ‘Creative Teams’. This is the place these microtransactions will actually come into play (and hopefully will not seep into the opposite modes). Konami claims its monetization model for eFootball might be “rebalanced to ensure that all players can reach the same potential, regardless of how they acquire in-game items”, however forgive me if I’m a little bit skeptical about that.
The recreation will use three sorts of foreign money: eFootball Coins (premium), eFootball Points (earned by gameplay), and GP (additionally earned by gameplay). If Konami may give out eFootball Points at a beneficiant sufficient charge, maybe there’s an opportunity that gamers gained’t really feel unfairly compelled to buy the sport’s premium foreign money, which is able to little doubt be bundled into very particular, annoying quantities.

Thankfully, for the remainder of us who don’t see the worth of spending cash on constructing a digital crew of soccer gamers, eFootball will let at the least let gamers participate in pleasant matches domestically or on-line utilizing the 9 official groups which are obtainable. Hopefully, the on-pitch motion won't disappoint.
Opinion: Cash for objectives
While it’s widespread data and utterly anticipated at this level that free-to-play video games are usually affected by microtransactions and premium bundles corresponding to this, I can’t assist however really feel disenchanted that Konami is pushing DLC so readily for what's going to probably be its important cash-spinner, Creative Team, particularly as it may’t even be used till a later date.
It additionally makes me fear concerning the path of eFootball basically. There’s an actual risk that the event crew might be slowed down by attempting to monetize the sport at each given alternative, as an alternative of specializing in eFootball delivering essentially the most convincing recreation of soccer up to now.

I actually hope that eFootball’s Master League mode, which has all the time been the spotlight of any PES recreation for me, is free of microtransactions, too. Especially as Konami has confirmed that Master League might be a separate buy later down the road.
Time will in the end inform if Konami can get the steadiness proper with eFootball, because the free-to-play model, when achieved proper, will be compelling for each gamers and builders. The prospect of eFootball permitting cross-platform play, together with in opposition to cell gamers, can also be one thing that FIFA 22 doesn’t provide, and with the sport being free, there’s at the least no barrier to entry this time round. Let’s simply hope Konami retains the quantity of microtransactions in test.
eFootball might be obtainable to download at no cost on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and cell on September 30, 2021.
