Jerusalem attack: One dead, four injured, in shooting; assailant also killed

Four others -- amongst them a person whose situation is described as critical -- have been injured in the incident, which occurred on Sunday morning close to the Chain Gate entrance to the al Aqsa mosque compound, also often known as the Temple Mount. The alleged assailant, who used an improvised computerized weapon generally often known as a Carlo, police say, was shot useless by cops on the scene. Israel's public safety minister Omar Bar Lev stated the gunman was from the neighborhood of Shuafat in east Jerusalem and a member of the political wing of Hamas. Hamas issued a press release figuring out the attacker as Fadi Abu Shkaydam, calling him a heroic martyr and describing him as an area chief of the motion.
It stated the assault was "a response to the attempts to desecrate Al Aqsa mosque." Israel's Prime Minister Naftali Bennett informed authorities ministers he was praying for the restoration of the wounded and had instructed safety forces to arrange for doable "copycat attacks." "We need to be on heightened alert and prevent future attacks," he stated initially of the weekly Cabinet assembly. The incident comes four days after a 16-year-old Palestinian was shot useless after finishing up a stabbing assault on two Israeli border police in the Old City, police stated.
