Ganesh Chaturthi or Chaturdashi is a spectacular festival of Hindus which is celebrated in honors the birth of the Hindu epic legend elephant God Ganesha. This year the festival will be celebrated on 22nd August 2020.
The festival is organized in late August or early September, depending on the annual cycle of the moon. Generally, according to Hindu calendar, it falls on the fourth day after the new full moon, Purnamasi in the Hindu month of Bhadrapada according to Hindu mythology Lord Ganesha is the son of lord shiva and Parvati.
The festival will extend over 10 days with the biggest spectacular extravaganza happening on the last day called Anant Chaturdashi, which falls on September 1, 2020, when the idols of Lord Ganesha are immersed back into the water
Lord Ganesha is popularly worshiped by Hindus for his magical abilities to remove obstacles and bring good fortune and clean the lives of people from miseries and sorrows. The festival is celebrated by people of all society in a joyous way. The local communities organize a competition and challenge each other to put up pandals.

Although the start of the festival is a matter of public debate over who started it there some believe it was started by Sardar Krishna Ji Khasgiwale, freedom fighter Bhausaheb Rangari or freedom fighter Lokmanya tilak, its main purpose was to bring people of different classes and castes together to unite them against the British rule in order to strengthen the religion for the first time the idol was prepared in Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati temple in Budhwar Peth in Pune which is a very popular and historical temple for Hindus.
