Chicago carjacking: Excel Academy student Will McGee shot, killed while running away from carjackers in Pullman, family says

CHICAGO (WLS) — Family and family members gathered Friday to recollect an 18-year-old who was shot and killed throughout a carjacking on Chicago’s South Side.Will McGee was simply shy of getting his highschool diploma earlier than he was gunned down.

“They just took a good kid. My baby,” stated his mom, Larena Lillard. “And if we keep allowing it, it’ll be somebody else’s son.”

“He made everybody smile by the way he act, or who he met,” stated his older sister, Daisy McGee. “Everybody loved him! And it’s just crazy that so many people loved him!”

McGee was on East 98th Street simply off of South Drexel Avenue Thursday afternoon when police say somebody focused him in a carjacking simply earlier than 2 p.m.

His family stated he texted family members while he was being surrounded by a number of automobiles.”And as he start to running from him, one of the guys shot him in the back. Killed him … as he was running away, fleeing from them!” the Rev. Willie McGee, his father, stated. “They could’ve had the car. They could’ve had any of that. I would’ve gave anything. I would’ve gave my life for my son!”

His lifeless physique was left on the chilly pavement while investigators stated the suspect drove away along with his silver Chevy Equinox. According to family members, the automobile was discovered a short while later, however the automotive thief was nowhere to be discovered.

“I just didn’t believe it was him,” his mom stated. “And I still didn’t believe it until they let me go in and see him… It hurts. I really want them to find who did this. We need some justice!”

Family members stated McGee had saved as much as purchase the brand new automotive. He was a senior at Excel Academy of Roseland and had simply gained homecoming king. He was a teen with a shiny future forward whose life was minimize brief earlier than he may attain his objectives.

McGee deliberate to enlist in the navy after highschool, and he died on Veterans Day.

“I’ll never get over this! Never! This is something I can never in my life get over,” his father stated.

As police proceed to seek for the suspect or suspects in the case, family members plan to put McGee to relaxation on Monday.
