MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — A Minnesota couple says they know why a stranger focused their household, however that doesn’t make it any simpler.
A suspected stalker used a stolen SUV to hit their home in Cold Spring final weekend. Andrea and Phillipe Robinson’s Ring digital camera captured the automobile driving onto their entrance porch. It severely broken the facet of the house.
“I’m still in shock,” Andrea stated. “I can’t believe this. Every day I just come out here and think it’s a bad dream.”
Benton Beyer has been charged within the assault. Police say he stole the automobile and ditched it in entrance of the Robinsons’ home after inserting a big piece of granite on the accelerator. Hanging inside was a teddy bear in a noose.
The Robinsons are an interracial couple; Andrea is white and Phillipe is Black.
“How do I supposed to feel safe?” Phillipe stated. “My wife, my children don’t want to stay here, and I understand.”
Beyer is not any stranger to the Robinsons. Andrea has a restraining order in opposition to him, and police have fielded 18 calls prior to now two months about Beyer stalking and harassing her.
“He’s ramped it up,” Phillipe stated. “He went from busting out windows to shooting at cameras, to knowing our schedule well enough that he would follow my wife at grocery stores.”
They say the scary habits began after they posted a video about racism of their kids’s college, and put a Black Lives Matter signal of their yard. Andrea says the signal turned a goal.
The police say if there’s proof of a racially-motivated crime, they may search prosecution to the fullest extent of the legislation. But the Robinsons have little religion, saying officers rapidly gave up chasing Beyer after the crash.
“We were left here with our neighbors with no police protection with a man that essentially tried to kill our family,” Andrea stated.
Police say they ended the search as a result of the sphere he was in was moist and tough to navigate. Phillipe says Beyer was solely caught later because of a neighbor turning him in.
Beyer made his first courtroom look Tuesday after being charged with auto theft, stalking and property injury. All three are felony prices.
