The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has issued guidelines regarding online gaming, fantasy gaming, etc. in India. In a press release issued by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, it has been said that a large number of advertisements for online gaming, misleading games etc. are being shown on television. Concern has been expressed that such advertisements appear to be misleading, do not properly provide financial benefits to consumers and other risks associated with it, as laid down under the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995 and Consumer Protection Act, 2019 The advertisements do not conform to the manual.

In this way, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting along with the Ministry of Consumer Affairs and Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI), News Broadcasters Association (NBA), Indian Broadcasting Foundation (IBF), All India Gaming Federation (AIGF), Federation of A meeting was convened on 18.11.2020 with stakeholders of Indian Fantasy Sports (FIFS) and Online Rumi Federation (ORF).
After deliberation and consultation at the meeting, it was agreed that ASCI would issue an appropriate guideline for the benefit of advertisers and broadcasters to ensure that advertisements are transparent and protect the interests of consumers. ASCI has proposed that these guidelines come into effect from December 15, 2020.

Guidelines for online gaming advertisements

  • No gaming advertisement can show anyone appearing to be under 18 years of age or under 18 years of age in an online game being played to win real money or suggest such a person can play these games. Can give
